Trip Wrap-Up VIP Agile Offroad Event in Utah

Agile Offroad recently hosted an exclusive VIP adventure

van trip through the stunning San Rafael Swell region in Utah. Our guests enjoyed a blend of breathtaking landscapes, historical landmarks, and thrilling off-road challenges. Here’s a day-by-day wrap-up of their unforgettable journey.

Day 1 Tuesday, May 21: Castle Dale and the Wedge Overlook

The VIP guests convened in Castle Dale, Utah, starting the day at a local gas station where they aired down their tires in preparation for the rugged terrain. Their first destination was the Little Grand Canyon Overlook, also known as the Wedge Overlook, providing them with panoramic views of the San Rafael River winding through dramatic canyons.

The adventure continued into Buckhorn Wash, where guests explored an old mine and admired the Buckhorn Wash Pictograph Panel, featuring ancient rock art from Native American cultures. Throughout the day, they spotted wild horses, pronghorns, and bats.

Lunch was enjoyed at an old uranium mine on Calf Mesa. Here, guests tested their vehicles’ 4WD capabilities on an uphill obstacle course. The use of the ARB Air Locker enabled guests to conquer the challenge easily. After lunch, they visited a tumbleweed-filled sinkhole and the “Lone Warrior” petroglyph. The day concluded at Swasey’s Cabin, a historical site that provided insights into the lives of the Swasey brothers, early settlers of the area. The group then camped at the Red Canyon Wilderness, capping the night with a campfire under the stars.

Day 2 Wednesday, May 22: Mines and Arches

After a hearty breakfast, the guests hiked around Lucky Strike Mine for about 30 minutes, uncovering remnants of the region’s mining history. They then explored Hondoo Arch and another nearby mine, with Colt providing entertaining stories and interesting facts via the radio throughout the day.

Driving through Muddy Creek and Horse Valley Wilderness Area, the group stopped for lunch at the Hidden Splendor Airstrip. This small dirt runway, nestled among canyons, still sees occasional use, and guests were thrilled to witness a plane take off during their meal.

The afternoon brought more off-road excitement as they navigated N Temple Wash, tackling slot canyons and rocky hills. The day ended with a camp setup in Goblin Valley, where a full moon illuminated the whimsical rock formations despite the windy night.

Day 3 Thursday, May 23: From Muddy Creek to Factory Butte

Thursday began with an exhilarating drive through Muddy Creek, involving the first river crossing of the trip. Guests drove through the river and then climbed out, enjoying the thrill of the experience.

The journey continued to the Skyline Rim Overlook and Moon Overlook, both offering stunning views of the vast landscape. In the evening, they pulled into camp along Factory Road, with the imposing Factory Butte Monolith serving as a dramatic backdrop. Dinner was a communal affair featuring Chris King’s delicious birria. Before dinner, Jan and Marcia conducted a practical demonstration on cleaning the Sprinter air filter using a vacuum cleaner, providing valuable tips to the group.

Day 4 Friday, May 24: Cathedral Valley and Beyond

The final day began with visits to the iconic Temple of the Moon, Temple of the Sun, and Glass Mountain, all located in Cathedral Valley, a remote area known for its striking rock formations.

Lunch was at the eerie Gypsum Sinkhole, a deep cave surrounded by towering rock walls.
